Who We Are

Welcome to Maryland Kale Heywet Church in North America

On behalf of Maryland Kale Heywet Church in North America, we warmly welcome you to our website!
This platform is one of the ways we connect with one another, share the love of Christ, and invite others to join us in the journey of faith and fellowship.

As the Scripture reminds us in Hebrews 10:24–25, “Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Our desire is to be a family of believers who live out this call — a community that inspires, uplifts, and walks together in the love and truth of Jesus Christ.

Our Vision and Calling

Our vision is to expand the Gospel of Jesus Christ and make disciples of all nations — preaching, teaching, and baptizing in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, in obedience to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20).

This vision began to take visible shape in North America soon after Maryland Kaleheywet Church was established. What started as a humble Bible study and prayer fellowship in one family’s home in March 2015, with just two families — about five people — quickly grew by God’s grace. Within five months, we hosted the Maryland Kaleheywet Church Conference in July 2015, and later that year, in November 2015, the Maryland Kale Heywet Fellowship was formally organized, meeting weekly for Bible study and prayer.
By April 2016, the Maryland Kale Heywet Church was legally established in the United States — a testimony to God’s faithfulness and the steadfast prayers of His people.

Our Identity and Purpose

We are a Christ-centered, Bible-based, Spirit-led church family.
We exist to glorify God, build up believers, and reach out to the lost with the transforming message of Jesus Christ.
We believe the Church is not merely a building, but a living body — a people united by faith, love, and purpose.

God has been working in amazing ways through our church to proclaim the Gospel both locally and globally. We are deeply aware that to whom much is given, much is required. We have inherited a legacy of faith and mission from our pioneer leaders, and we are committed to carrying that legacy forward — to proclaim Christ, to plant churches, and to make disciples wherever God sends us.

We do not seek to mirror the comfort of the “American Dream,” but rather to live out God’s dream — to be light and salt in this world, living lives that make an eternal difference in both word and deed.

Our Commitment

Now is our time to shine the light of the Gospel with passion and compassion.
Let us pray together, encourage one another, and engage wholeheartedly in fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus Christ — here in North America and beyond.

Together, may we continue to be a church that reflects the love of Christ, transforms lives, and impacts generations to come.

Welcome once again — we’re so glad you’re here!

Maryland Kaleheywet Church Statement of Faith

God the Father

We believe in God who is self-existent, eternal, all-knowing, all-powerful, creator of the universe and the human beings, and present everywhere. God has eternally existed in three co-equal persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 13:14). The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are in agreement and unified with each other as the Godhead. We believe these three persons are co-equal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1, 26-27; 3:22; Deuteronomy 6:4; Job 38, 39, & 40; Psalm 90:2, 139:1-4, 7-10; Isaiah 40:13-17,45; 1 Peter 1:2; John 1:1, Colossians 1:15; Revelation 4:11).

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He is God who was born of the Virgin Mary, fully God and fully human. Jesus is coequal with the Father and the Holy Spirit, and present and participating in creation. Jesus took on human flesh in the fullness of time so that He could live a sinless life and offer Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He was raised from the dead on the third day, victorious over the power of sin and death. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead and to make all things new. We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, and that Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and human beings. (John 1:1; Philippians 2:6; John 14:9; Isaiah 7:12; Luke 1:30; Hebrew 4:6; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; 1 Timothy 2:5; 3:16; Romans 3:24-25; Mark 16:19; Acts 1:9, 11, 10-42; Revelation 1:7-20; 22:12; 1 Thessalonians 2:16, 4:15-17; John 1:10)

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is God, who is a co-Creator with the Father and Son, sent by the Father through the Son to convict the world of sin. The Holy Spirit is a comforter who leads us into all truth, and empower and equip the Church to carry on Christ’s work on earth. The Holy Spirit dwells in every Christian from the moment of salvation, and He distributes spiritual gifts, and He convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgment. (Genesis 1:2; John 14:26; 15:26; 16:8; 2 Peter 1:21; Acts 1:8; 1Coranthians 12:4-11; Ephesians 1:13; 4:11-12).

The Bible

We believe that the Bible, both the Old and the New Testament, is the Word of God. The Bible has a human and divine authors where they wrote under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it is inspired by God, the Bible is infallible, inerrant, and absolute truth. It is the ultimate and final authority for Christian beliefs and living (Psalms 12:6; 119:105; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11; 1 Thessalonians 2:13).

Salvation

We believe that all have sinned and fell short of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death and eternal separation from God. Salvation is a free gift of God. Jesus Christ’s death and his resurrection is the only sufficient payment for our sins. It’s only by grace through faith that one can receive this free gift. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life. This is evidenced by repentance, confession, baptism by immersion, and a life submitted to Christ (Matthew 1:21; Luke 1:68-69; John 1:12, 14:6; Romans 3:23; 5:1, 6:23;10:9-13; Galatians 3:26; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Acts 2:38-40).

The Church

We believe that the Church is the gathering of believers who have come to faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord and who have been baptized by the Holy Spirit and became one body at the moment of their conversion. The main mission of the church is the Great Commission, to preach the gospel and to make disciples of Jesus. We believe that the Lord Jesus is the head of the Church (Matthew 16:18; Acts 2:41; 15:13-17; Ephesians 1:3-6; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13).

Water Baptism

We believe that baptism is a public declaration of one’s faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to follow him. All believers who accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior would be baptized in obedience to Jesus’ commandments. We believe that the Christian baptism by immersion in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Mathew 28:19-20; Mark 16:16; Acts 10:47-48; Romans 6:1-4).

Holiness

We believe that Christians are called to glorify the Lord by obeying the word of God and living a holy and fruitful life. (James 1:22-25; Luke 8:8-15; 2 Timothy 2:19; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:15-16; Galatians 5:22-24; 1 John 2:6)

Marriage

We believe that marriage is a holy union between one man (by birth) and one woman (by birth). We believe that marriage is a holy institution created by God in the Garden of Eden. It is a covenant between a man and a woman to be together until death. (Genesis 2:18, 21-24; Ephesians 5: 21-33; Matthew 19: 3-9; Hebrew 13:4).

The Second Coming of Christ

We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ who ascended into heaven to the right-hand side of God the Father will return from heaven to earth. Jesus’ second coming will be personal, visible, and glorious. When he returns both the living shall be transformed and the dead in Christ shall be resurrected for judgment. All believers will live in a new heaven and a new earth with him forever. Those who did not obey God and did not believe in Jesus will be judged and cast into the lake of fire for everlasting punishment which is called the second death (Mathew 25:34-46; Luke 12:40; Acts 1:9-11; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:10-15, 19:11-14).

Our History

 from Ethiopia to North America

Our Story: From a Spark to a Spreading Flame

The Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC) was born out of a powerful missionary awakening in the early 20th century—a movement fueled by deep faith, unwavering prayer, and a burning desire to make Christ known among all peoples. Rooted in Scripture and guided by the Holy Spirit, EKHC set out to proclaim the Gospel, equip believers, and plant vibrant, Christ-centered churches throughout Ethiopia.
It was never just a movement of buildings or names, but of hearts ignited by the love of Jesus Christ—a light that could not be hidden.

A New Chapter Across the Ocean

As Ethiopians began to journey abroad in the early 2000s, that same flame of faith traveled with them. In homes, dorm rooms, and community halls across North America, groups of believers began to gather—first to pray, then to worship, and soon to grow together in fellowship.

These gatherings became the seedbeds of new congregations, united in spirit and mission. Their shared heartbeat continues the vision of EKHC in a new cultural landscape—led to the formal establishment of the Kale Heywet Church in North America in 2009.

KHCNA became more than an organization; it became a bridge—linking generations, nations, and cultures under one unchanging purpose: to glorify God and make disciples of all nations.

America (Maryland Kaleheywet Church) in 2009.

Maryland Kaleheywet Church became more than an organization; it became a bridge—linking generations, nations, and cultures under one unchanging purpose: to glorify God and make disciples of all nations.

Within just five months, God multiplied the effort. The group joyfully hosted the KHCNAConference in July 2015, a milestone that confirmed His divine calling. Later that same year, in November 2015, the fellowship took a new step of faith and formally organized as the Maryland Kale Heywet Fellowship, meeting weekly for worship, prayer, and the study of God’s Word.

The Birth of Maryland Kale Heywet Church

This God-given vision took visible form in Maryland. What began as a simple Bible study and prayer gathering in March 2015—with two families, around five believers—became the seed of something far greater than anyone could imagine. The Holy Spirit breathed life into that fellowship, turning it into a thriving family of faith.

From Fellowship to Church

With hearts full of gratitude and vision, the believers pressed on. And in April 2016, the Maryland Kale Heywet Church was legally established in the United States—a visible testimony to God’s unwavering faithfulness and the enduring prayers of His people.

What began as a small circle of believers has now become a growing community—a place of worship, discipleship, and mission—serving as a spiritual home for many who seek to know and follow Jesus Christ.

Every step of this journey declares the same truth:

“This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” — Psalm 118:23

Our Continuing Mission

Today, the Maryland Kale Heywet Church stands as a living witness of God’s grace—a community built on prayer, love, and unity. Our calling remains the same:

  • To preach the Gospel boldly.
  • To equip believers for godly living.
  • To make disciples in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  • To serve our neighbors and shine the light of Christ in our generation.

The same God who began this good work will be faithful to complete it.
