Our Story: From a Spark to a Spreading Flame
The Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC) was born out of a powerful missionary awakening in the early 20th century—a movement fueled by deep faith, unwavering prayer, and a burning desire to make Christ known among all peoples. Rooted in Scripture and guided by the Holy Spirit, EKHC set out to proclaim the Gospel, equip believers, and plant vibrant, Christ-centered churches throughout Ethiopia.
It was never just a movement of buildings or names, but of hearts ignited by the love of Jesus Christ—a light that could not be hidden.
A New Chapter Across the Ocean
As Ethiopians began to journey abroad in the early 2000s, that same flame of faith traveled with them. In homes, dorm rooms, and community halls across North America, groups of believers began to gather—first to pray, then to worship, and soon to grow together in fellowship.
These gatherings became the seedbeds of new congregations, united in spirit and mission. Their shared heart beat—to continue the vision of EKHC in a new cultural landscape—led to the formal establishment of the Kale Heywet Church in North

Young Adults
Young Adults gather weekly for their own dynamic worship and discipleship experience. We partner with parents, the primary disciple-makers, to support Young Adults as they grow in faith and purpose.

Hospitality is more than a warm smile—it is a ministry of love that sets the tone for every worship experience. Our Hospitality Team serves on the front lines of welcome, greeting guests with joy, helping them find seats, answering questions, and ensuring everyone feels seen, valued, and at home.
From the moment we finish the regular worship session that follows service in our Café, our team creates an atmosphere of warmth, excellence, and genuine care. Through simple acts of kindness, we open hearts to receive the love of Christ.

Our Music and singing Ministry exists to glorify God and lead His people into His presence through the power of worship. Through song, sound, and sacred expression, our worship team and choir faithfully use their God-given gifts to serve the church and exalt the name of Jesus.
We are committed to creating an atmosphere where hearts are lifted, faith is stirred, and lives are transformed through the presence of God. Worship is more than music—it is our response of love, surrender, and devotion to the Lord.

America (Maryland Kaleheywet Church) in 2009.
Maryland Kaleheywet Church became more than an organization; it became a bridge—linking generations, nations, and cultures under one unchanging purpose: to glorify God and make disciples of all nations.
The Birth of Maryland Kale Heywet Church
This God-given vision took visible form in Maryland. What began as a simple Bible study and prayer gathering in March 2015—with two families, around five believers—became the seed of something far greater than anyone could imagine. The Holy Spirit breathed life into that fellowship, turning it into a thriving family of faith.
Within just five months, God multiplied the effort. The group joyfully hosted the Maryland Kaleheywet Church Conference in July 2015, a milestone that confirmed His divine calling. Later that same year, in November 2015, the fellowship took a new step of faith and formally organized as the Maryland Kale Heywet Fellowship, meeting weekly for worship, prayer, and the study of God’s Word.
From Fellowship to Church
With hearts full of gratitude and vision, the believers pressed on. And in April 2016, the Maryland Kale Heywet Church was legally established in the United States—a visible testimony to God’s unwavering faithfulness and the enduring prayers of His people.
What began as a small circle of believers has now become a growing community—a place of worship, discipleship, and mission—serving as a spiritual home for many who seek to know and follow Jesus Christ.
Every step of this journey declares the same truth:
“This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” — Psalm 118:23
Our Continuing Mission
Today, the Maryland Kale Heywet Church stands as a living witness of God’s grace—a community built on prayer, love, and unity. Our calling remains the same:
What started as a spark of faith in a living room has become a growing flame of hope that reaches hearts near and far. And as we look ahead, we carry one assurance deep in our hearts:
The same God who began this good work will be faithful to complete it.
The Maryland Kale Heywet Church exists to proclaim Christ, disciple believers, plant churches, and empower communities through Gospel-rooted teaching, loving fellowship, and spiritual growth. We envision a vibrant, Christ-centered family where faith is alive, love is active, and hope is contagious — a community transformed by the power of the Gospel and dedicated to renewing lives and shaping generations. Our heart is to see individuals changed, families strengthened, and communities restored through the truth of God’s Word — building a lasting legacy of disciples who make disciples, shining His light across cultures and nations. “You are the light of the world. We believe that every believer is called to be a light — in their family, workplace, and neighborhood.
